Land Of The Free Special Report – Another State Sanctioned Murder Of An Innocent?

Troy Davis was convicted in 1991 of killing Savannah police officer Mark Allen MacPhail. No murder weapon was produced by the Authorities and no physical evidence connected Davis to the killing. In addition, seven of the nine original state witnesses have since retracted or changed their testimonies in sworn affidavits. One of the two remaining witnesses is alleged to be the actual killer.

In February 2007 Amnesty International published a report titled, “Where Is the Justice for Me? The Case of Troy Davis, Facing Execution in Georgia”. Since then AI has campaigned for a new trial for Davis.

Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter have all called for clemency. Lawmakers from within and outside of Georgia have expressed concern at the safety of Troy Davis’ conviction.

Despite this the USA Supreme Court has declined to hear his appeal. This in effect means that Troy Davis will be murdered by the Georgia State Justice system as scheduled on 27 October 2008 at 7pm.

The Georgia Board of Pardon and Paroles denied clemency to Davis, but they can change that decision. We must urge them to reconsider their decision. Click this link to easily TAKE ACTION by writing or emailing The Georgia Board of Pardon and Paroles.

Stop Child Abuse Now - Philippines Report

A shocking report on child labour in the Philippines.

Mari-Lou and her two friends are screaming at the top of their voices as they descend down a water chute. Watching them enjoy the ride you’d not guess what they have been through.

A government social worker has treated the girls to a day at an amusement park to help them recover from the trauma of being locked up, beaten, unpaid and sexually abused. Recruited from their peasant village to became maids in Manila, they have been totally exploited by their employment agency.

At a gold mine, Joel makes $8 a day scrabbling in the mud for any gold ore which spills beneath the wheels of endless trucks. In Manila, 13 year old Brian Marsada is locked into a dim warehouse where he bottles bleach. When it is raided by government forces, Brian escapes.

These children are recruited from country villages. Their impoverished families are forced to let their children suffer slave labour. Not that they are aware, initially anyway, of their children’s fate as the crooked recruiters lie about the city
