The British police love trouble. Nothing pleases them more than successfully provoking a situation so that they can go in hard. The peaceful G20 protests gave them their latest chance to smash the heads of unarmed protesters.
Police using violence against unarmed protesters
They have never learned the lessons from previous violent clashes. Again they hemmed in the protesters from all sides and started using their batons in response to verbal objections. Of course the crowd reacted and a few smashed property in frustration but the cause of that frustration was the police brutality and stupidity.

Many police had to run for safety as their tactics went wrong and the angered crowd fought with them. Police with no experience of such vast crowds were drafted in from outside London. Even the Mickey Mouse British Transport Police (BTP) were used. No wonder there was trouble.
