Did Mrs Duffy say “fucking Eastern Europeans”? That’s what Labour spin doctors would have you believe Gordon Brown thought he heard. She actually said “all these Eastern Europeans what are coming in, where are they flocking from?”. Very similar sentences, I fully understand how Brown could mistake “fucking Eastern Europeans” with “flocking from”.

An incident in the streets of England that may have more impact on the general election than Brown’s involvement in fighting illegal wars, expenses cheating or his appalling record at the helm of the Treasury. Those few ill chosen words broadcast through a microphone he forgot to turn off will may well be dubbed Brown’s Bigotgate. So in essence the Icelandic people, on ordinary salaries and pensions, are expected to pay back billions to two very rich countries because the greedy and stupid Icelandic bankers screwed up and couldn’t meet their obligations.
