Bigotgate: Now Brown’s Camp Try Smear Campaign

Did Mrs Duffy say “fucking Eastern Europeans”? That’s what Labour spin doctors would have you believe Gordon Brown thought he heard. She actually said “all these Eastern Europeans what are coming in, where are they flocking from?”. Very similar sentences, I fully understand how Brown could mistake “fucking Eastern Europeans” with “flocking from”.

Gordon Brown V Gillian Duffy: Bigotgate

An incident in the streets of England that may have more impact on the general election than Brown’s involvement in fighting illegal wars, expenses cheating or his appalling record at the helm of the Treasury. Those few ill chosen words broadcast through a microphone he forgot to turn off will may well be dubbed Brown’s Bigotgate.

Referendum Iceland: The People Vote & Capitalism Will Get A Bloody Nose

So in essence the Icelandic people, on ordinary salaries and pensions, are expected to pay back billions to two very rich countries because the greedy and stupid Icelandic bankers screwed up and couldn’t meet their obligations.

Belgium Rail Disaster Claims 18 Lives, Many Injured

There will be a full investigation by the Belgium authorities to establish the cause. Disasters of this nature always draw attention to safety issues and the conflict between the need for operators to make a profit and the vast cost of safety measures on railways.

Human Trafficking: Italy Tracks Down The Traffickers But Is It Enough?

This is s global scandal that many countries have pledged to fight but in practice at best fail miserably or even target the victims with prosecutions, imprisonment and deportation for illegal entry and working as prostitutes. Their rapist kidnappers mostly get away without any sanctions whatsoever and merely move on and replace their stock with more unsuspecting victims.

Police Abuse Of Power: Stop & Search Illegal Without Reasonable Suspicion

British police have been abusing their powers under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and the Government wants them to carry on doing so. Here are some of the reactions from the press and human rights organisations.

The Government yet again have egg on their face. I don’t think there has been a British government that has broken the law as much as this one which came to power before the turn of the century. More innocent people are going to be abused by out-of-control cops because the Home Secretary Alan Johnson has given them the green-light despite the ruling.

Human Rights: Exactly What Is Torture?

Ask the question “exactly what is torture?” and most people will proffer an answer. But the mental picture conjured up in your audiences mind will probably differ from person to person. The medieval rack and thumbscrew will come to the minds of many of course but while most of the ancient methods are no longer used they have been replaced with equally heinous practices in modern times. Water-boarding by the United States Secret Service being one exception that has been reborn in recent times.

Powerful Nations To Dump The Almighty US Dollar

In a controversial article published in my newspaper of choice, UK’s The Independent, Robert Fisk reveals that secret talks between the Gulf states, Russia, China, Japan and France are ongoing to secure a way for these powerful nations to dump the almighty US dollar.

People power is the cell phone video! Long may it exist.
