The Israeli attacks on Gaza by Israel have been condemned by the United Nations according to a report on the BBC web site:
“A United Nations inquiry into attacks by Israeli forces on UN property during the Gaza conflict four months ago has heavily criticised Israel’s army.
It found Israel to blame in six out of nine incidents when death or injury were caused to people sheltering at UN property and UN buildings were damaged.”
However, The Israeli Defence Minister, Ehud Barak, claimed the report was biased.
“We have the most moral army in the world,” he said.
“IDF [Israeli Defense Force] commanders and soldiers made every effort to avoid hurting uninvolved civilians.”
Really Mr Barak? These horrific pictures from inside Gaza say you are a liar. Israel stands along side the US, The United Kingdom and a plethora of smaller nations as candidates for war crimes prosecutions.
Hamas is not clear of any blame however. Hamas hid its fighters among civilians and in the vicinity of UN installations amongst other things. Clearly the leaders of both nations have no regard for basic human rights or indeed the ‘rules of war’ set out by the Geneva convention.
