Victims of the Gaza Conflict
Today Amnesty International sent this report to all members and I have great pleasure in sharing it with you.
“After huge global pressure, the Palestinian Authority requested a special session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to vote on a resolution endorsing the Goldstone Report.”
“The vote took place this afternoon with 25 in favour, 11 abstentions and six against – which means that the report has now been endorsed.”
“The report will now go to the UN General Assembly with a recommendation to refer its conclusions to the International Criminal Court if Israel and Hamas fail to conduct credible investigations within the next six months.”
“Today we’re one step closer to securing justice and accountability for the victims of the Gaza conflict.”
This is excellent news, sixty-eight percent voted in favour. This is proof that protest, pressure and demonstrations work. Sometimes not too quickly but a tiny step forward is nevertheless progress.
Hopefully, this decision today will lead to peace in the Middle East and justice for the victims of illegal actions of both sides.
