Gumtree Car-Buyer Beaten, Kicked & Stabbed By East London Con-Men

Gumtree LogoLondon. A man was ambushed and stabbed when he went to buy a car from conmen in Barking, east London. He had responded to an ad on the web site Gumtree.

He required open heart surgery to save his life after he was beaten, kicked and stabbed by the assailants who stole the £5000 ($8000)  he took with him to pay for the car.

The true owner of the car was not aware it had been offered for sale. Two men were arrested by police and are now on bail.

A Gumtree spokeswoman said: “We take safety very seriously and regret that one of our users has been a victim of crime.”

“We work with law enforcement officers to keep the site safe and are helping police with this investigation. We strongly recommend that users meet in daylight, in a public place and take a friend.”
