Pervy Ian Stafford, 59, who resigned as Mayor of Preesall in Lancashire when arrested for breaking into women’s homes and stealing their underwear pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary at Preston Crown Court.
Stafford admitted breaking into buildings in Poulton-le-Fylde and Stalmine, Lancashire, between January 1 and 26 June 2009.
The police were called when the female residents found their undies kept disappearing. One woman installed a hidden camera in her bedroom.
The case was adjourned for pre-sentencing reports until February 5. Judge Philip Sycamore gave Stafford bail but indicted that the part-time handyman and gardener faces a severe sentence.
This pervert is not in the same league as child molesters but it shouldn’t be forgotten the effect a deeply personal intrusion like this has on the victims. Jailing him, in an already overcrowded prison, is probably overkill but he deserves public humiliation. Maybe an orange jump-suit and electronic tag, coupled with a curfew would suffice.

The women complained that their underwear was being stolen and a trap was set for him so his looks have nothing to do with the issue.

As I said in a previous comment a public spectacle is I think an appropriate punishment and tagging, not prison, so that the police know where is.

If caught, yobs as described above, do not get away without punishment.

Of course people are missing the point with all this – the thrill is in the stealing of the panties (or underpants, socks, bras etc). It is one of the most widespread kinks and fetishes there are. Yeh it was an intrusion but I think if he’d looked like Justing TImberlake, the women wouldn’t have complained as much. Innocent? Are you joking? And how you can he be “not as guilty as he looks”? He burgled women’s homes and stole their underwear and he pleaded guilty! As a mayor he was also in a position of trust in the community. He has not only committed crimes but has betrayed the trust of his constituents. As to your own blog post at absolute-NONsense you are a man that, who as one of your commenters said, “you don’t know right from wrong”. Go straight to jail and don’t pass GO!
Ian Stafford is innocent! Or if not innocent then certainly not as guilty as he looks…read my blog and join the campaign to clear his name.

I don’t understand what anyone gets out of stealing (or buying) used underwear. In this case I suppose it’s the thrill he got from the risks he was taking. Wierdo!
