Another example of the police state in action. One million British pounds was earmarked for police action against peaceful climate protesters. Fourteen hundred police were on standby to stop, by force, perfectly legal protesters.
The ‘Nazi style’ police tactics meant not only the peaceful protesters were searched and harassed but residents that had nothing to do with the Peace Camp were also molested. An old lady had her walking stick confiscated.
Cyclists had bike locks confiscated, kids had their crayons and costumes taken and journalists were prevented from doing their job. Legal observers were excluded from the site and along with journalists were threatened with arrest.
These bully-boy police used batons, CS gas and shields against protesters who were neither attacking the police nor being in anyway aggressive. Male officers attacked women who refused to be searched and added the personal date of 1000s of people to a secret database.
This is the state of Britain today. We have a Labour Government that has betrayed the very people who founded the party, who’s members have betrayed the voters and their own declared principles. Many of these hypocrites protested in anti-war protests, workers protests and anti-capitalist demonstrations fom the 1960’s until more recent times but now in government have abandoned all principles and wallow in their lust for power.
We must remember this at the ballot box – the General Election is probably in 2010 although it could be called sooner. Now there’s a protest that let’s us deliver immediate results.
