Police Brutality Update: Guilty Cop Claims Innocence

The  Seattle sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty to charges he assaulted a 15-year-old girl in a holding cell. I ran the story here: 15-Year Old Girl Attacked, Punched & Lifted By Her Hair .

This what the “From Sheets To Shields” web site says about this case:
“Washington state police clearly don’t think so. They released the footage as part of a criminal investigation into the officer’s behaviour. Now the teenager has spoken on air about the experience, and she comes across well. Articulate, well-spoken and with a concerned father in tow, I don’t fancy the officer’s chances of getting out of this one.The girl, 15, was in a cell at the police station after being arrested for allegedly stealing a car. She and a friend had ‘borrowed’ the friend’s mother’s car. I’m sure the girl was truculent, obnoxious and so on – the footage shows her kicking off her shoes defiantly (when asked to remove them) – but can there be any justification for a police officer throwing a 15 year old girl to the floor, by her hair, before punching her twice when she’s on the ground? And while another officer stands by? And when the girl posed no immediate threat to his safety? She was unarmed, half his size and half his age”

Julie Chen of CBS News spoke with the girl and her father about the [deleted word] assault.

[Deleted Word] All news media use the word “alleged” in their reports. Sometimes, where all the facts are not clear, so do I. From today where video evidence is as clear as the above I refuse to include this bullshit word. The guilt of those cops is clear and if the full force of the law is not used and a guilty verdict pronounced then the American Constitution is for nothing because it is not guaranteeing  justice to the people.

What is “the presumption of innocence”?
The presumption of innocence is enshrined in the law of many countries including the United States of America. It is there to ensure a fair trial it does not mean that a person is innocent. Clearly where people a caught red-handed or there is overwhelming evidence against them, they are in fact guilty. But the presumption of innocence should ensure a thorough investigation and a fair trial. The Duck Shoot agrees with that principle but TDS is not a court of law and Dave Knight is not a Judge so both will say it as it is. Thank you David. I look forward to hearing your views on the subject. I’m glad to have provided you with some new material.

  • Joe you are right I can’t imagine life without you and enjoying you airing your views is not that deep down. I will be answering your question and republishing some of the deleted post in an article sometime soon. Please be patient I am busy on another project at the moment. Keep it coming Joe.

  • Joe

Don’t answer a question with a question Dave. I asked you about your take on the IPCC and questioned what you said about it. I did not attack you. You have not attempted to answer it.
You said last week or so that you would only refuse to publish my posts if i didn’t give my email address. I have since done this and still your not happy. Let people make their own judgements on what I say. I do not rant, my arguments are fair and well explained.
I’m sure that deep down you enjoy me airing my views to you and your readers. Wouldn’t life be dull if we all had the same opinions.
As for your question Dave, I just don’t think it does. Yes we can all view cctv and form our own opinions. The cctv is a piece of evidence to be considered, just as an eye witness statement would be. Viewing either one does not mean we are witnesses. That is my opinion and I’ll stick with it.

  • As usual Joe you are mostly talking out of your arse and I don’t like the smell so I deleted two of your posts. Neither added any value to the debate and were basically just an attack on me. If you disagree with me fine but write nonsense and I will delete.

So Joe, why doesn’t viewing CCTV make everyone who views it a witness?

  • Joe

[Editor's note: Here Joe expresses an opinion that is perfectly acceptable even though I do not agree with the bit about CCTV.]

Polly, not sure I agree with you that viewing cctv makes you a witness, but there is no doubt that the cop concerned certainly has some serious questions to answer. It does appear on the face of it that the red mist has descended over him and he has lost control over himself.

[Editor's note: The next two paragraphs are just an attack and contains assumptions. Actually if Joe read my posts with an open mind he would see that his questions are already answered. However, I have saved the particular rant he is referring to and it will become part of a post that I will publish when I have time.]

It’s also fortunate for you that Mr Knight agrees with what you say. When he doesn’t he tends to delete your posts and ignore any questions that you ask him. That’s what he did with me. In fact you probably won’t even see this post as no doubt it will be deleted.
Dave, nicely avoided by the way. I can only take your refusal to answer my question and the subsequent deletion of my last few posts as an indication that you have no answer for me, and don’t want other viewers to see this. Pity.

  • I absolutely agree Polly, if a son or daughter of mine were commit a crime like this I’d disown them unless I saw genuine remorse and some action to see that the victim was compensated.

I would certainly advise them to find other employment too. But all too often these officers are backed up by their superiors.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • In my opinion, the video makes anyone who watches it a “witness”. I personally witnessed Paul Schene run into the room like someone’s drunk dad, grab her violently by the hair throwing her to the ground, then pummeling her in the chest so hard that she probably had a bruised sternum (she complained later of pain in that area and the inability to breathe, a bruised sternum will do this, and it’s extremely painful).

I witnessed that. And so did you. And everyone who saw the video.

That’s the beauty of video. Hopefully it will catch a lot more of these criminals. They’re no different than any other criminal, save maybe an authoritarian fetish.

If I saw my son do something like that I would be ashamed that he came out of my body. That was anything but “manly”. But—badge bunnies everywhere seem to think it is.
