I wrote an article about this case previously, it was titled “Police Brutality: This Kind Of Shit Just Makes Me Hate Cops!”. At the time I only found a very short video of the actual police abuse. Now one of my readers with the nickname “Sad” has provided a longer version. Let’s first view it before further comment.
The school staff didn’t get everything right but I think they acted very patiently with this little girl. She was having quite a tantrum and the only time the staff member actually touched her was when she was likely to fall and hurt herself.
What I think they did wrong was to call the police. They should have waited for the mother to arrive not lose patience after only “45 minutes”.
It was probably the little girl realizing the cops were coming that calmed her down. She was sitting quietly when they arrived. So leaving the question “is it right to handcuff a child” for a moment. What the hell did these cops, including a female please note, think they were doing restraining her?
We are regressing. Back in history, actually not too far back, and children were enslaved, imprisoned, brutally punished and executed. I thought that was all behind us. Children have rights. Children are protected, in principle, by International law so what’s going on here?
The second video I have for you is the news report from MSNBC with some analysis from experts in the field of child welfare.
All the people here need more training in child welfare. The cops should be banned from ever working with kids and severely disciplined for their actions. Maybe they were so there is any more information on this case I hope it comes to light.

Re: Yvonne. A “Master’s level mental health therapist who works with behavior disordered children” – her quote! Really? Are you sure? No, I don’t believe you. Children have only restricted rights according to this “professional” – OK so lets bring back the death penalty for a child stealing an apple. The rack for disrupting a school class perhaps? How about life imprisonment for three minor offences – Oh yes I forgot the USA already does that.
This child is clearly shackled and threatened by adults that should know better. The following idiom seems to apply to this commenter. “There are none so blind as those who will not see!” – based on a biblical phrase.
No wonder wonder the United States military can blow women and children to bits in Muslim countries without remorse.
Honestly, you need to get off of your soapbox and work with children like this for a few days. I doubt you would be so quick to judge if your office, and work, were torn to shreds. As far as the “only 45 minutes” goes, WHERE was the mother after all that time? Also, this child wasn’t the only student at the school that day, I’m assuming from the background noise. Therefore, “only 45 minutes” was wasted on a child acting out and destroying property. Children do have rights, but those rights do not include destruction of property or avoidance of consequences. My guess is she’s seen the cops plenty of times in her own home, and that’s why she became subdued. I saw no evidence of enslavement, imprisonment, brutal torture or execution going on, so quit being so dramatic. Oh, and by the way, I’m a Master’s level mental health therapist who works with behavior disordered children. Maybe YOU should educate yourself from the inside out, instead of passing judgement from your sanitary little office somewhere far, far away from children like this.
