Youths suspected of train inspector stabbing

Front line rail workers in the United Kingdom face abuse every day, mostly verbal, but sometimes a serious incident like this occurs. It belies the claim, often made by rail companies, that rail travel is becoming safer.

The ticket inspector, on a C2C train at East Tilbury, Essex, caught two young men without tickets. When told to leave the train their response was to stab the inspector. He was taken to Basildon University Hospital where his wounds were treated. He received three stitches.

Police want to interview the two men pictured above; they were caught on CCTV. Do you know them?

Bob Crow the leader of the RMT union who rejects train company’s safety claims had this to say. “Once again it shows the dangers that transport staff face every day and particularly over the Christmas and new year period. The perpetrators of this vicious and cowardly assault must be caught, and the authorities need to show that those who attack public service workers will be severely punished.”

The incident occurred just before 9pm on Friday on the 8.20pm c2c service from Southend Central to Fenchurch Street in London. If you have any information, please report it to a rail staff member or police. Remember, the thugs that did this are dangerous, you could be next.
