So in essence the Icelandic people, on ordinary salaries and pensions, are expected to pay back billions to two very rich countries because the greedy and stupid Icelandic bankers screwed up and couldn’t meet their obligations.

In a meeting of minds and hearts bloggers across the world are pledging support for the Day of Blogging for Justice. Clearly there is a feeling amongst ordinary people that there is something very wrong with justice systems and law enforcement that continue to deploy the Taser. I doubt that police authorities expected the level of Taser abuse that has now reached epidemic proportions. The idea of a weapon that would not kill but incapacitate a violent or threatening suspect must have seemed like manna from heaven. The general consensus appears to be that Tasers would be used instead of guns therefore reducing deaths at point of arrest. Whether that was a sensible assumption is subject to debate but in practice we now have gung-ho cops using them for the flimsiest of excuses. This video, provided by Attorney Paul Edlund, shows six Minneapolis Police Officers punching and kicking Derryl Jenkins, 42, during a traffic stop on Feb. 19 in north Minneapolis. the USA, “Land of the Free” has got to be the worst of the developed countries in respect of gratuitous violence towards the public. Have I got this wrong aren’t they supposed to be serving American citizens? The bravery of the Iranian people just overwhelms me. This cry for help to the world should not go unheeded. Just what can be done isn’t clear and we must not allow the USA or United Kingdom to engage in military action but a solution must be found. Sixty-Four Containers with 1,400 tonnes of toxic waste are languishing in three Brazilian ports. Inside the illegal shipments are batteries, syringes, condoms and nappies (diapers). The British Embassy says that the UK is totally opposed to illegal waste trade and will take “immediate steps”. A story that isn’t controversial, isn’t about bad people and hopefully makes you laugh. How’s this for the first chuckle. I despair sometimes at the stupidity of the British. Being British myself I’m allowed to say that. Israel is at war with Hamas and Gaza. It has blockaded the State on land and sea. It has prevented vital supplies, food and medicine from being delivered. It prevents free movement of the population. It prevents free reporting of events. Israel, or to be precise, the government of Israel, is the aggressor and as its actions are against International Law they are the terrorists. |
