La Oroya boasts a dirty American-owned smelter that has operated there since 1922. The metal smelter is run by the Missouri-based Doe Run Corporation and has reneged on it’s contractual promises to clean up it’s processes. Profit always comes before peoples health and well-being. Doe Run doesn’t give damn about the environment or the people who live in this area. They wouldn’t get away with it in the United States or Europe but in a ‘third-world’ country anything goes. Capitalism has no morality! There have been deaths wherever Tasers are used but in the United States it is an epidemic. Cops in the US are just plain crazy and because they are never been held accountable they continue to abuse the people they are employed to serve. Don’t you find the case of the failed ‘air bomber’ just a bit too much to swallow? The former London student, a Nigerian, is alleged to be a terrorist who got instructions from an Al Qaeda cell in Yemen. If you believe the official story that Al Qaeda used amateur pilots to steer two giant aircraft into the New York twin towers then the dispatch of this incompetent 23-year-old sent to blow up a plane with a firecracker strapped to his balls seems a a tiny bit inept. The puppet government of Iraq, that wouldn’t last five minutes if the USA wasn’t propping it up with millions of US citizens tax dollars, is considering emptying death row with secret mass executions. In a meeting of minds and hearts bloggers across the world are pledging support for the Day of Blogging for Justice. Clearly there is a feeling amongst ordinary people that there is something very wrong with justice systems and law enforcement that continue to deploy the Taser. This report from Electronic Village brings the total US citizens that have been Tasered to death this year to the unacceptable total of forty-six. I doubt that police authorities expected the level of Taser abuse that has now reached epidemic proportions. The idea of a weapon that would not kill but incapacitate a violent or threatening suspect must have seemed like manna from heaven. The general consensus appears to be that Tasers would be used instead of guns therefore reducing deaths at point of arrest. Whether that was a sensible assumption is subject to debate but in practice we now have gung-ho cops using them for the flimsiest of excuses. The International Olympic Committee announced, in Copenhagen, that Rio de Janeiro are the winners to host the 2016 games. President Lula was there to share the joy and Brazilians the world over are celebrating. Google the search engine that revolutionized search on the Internet is 11-years old today. With regard to search innovation Google does excel but in other areas fleeting glimpses of the Devil are seen. |
