The PM should be ashamed that having collaborated with former Prime Minister Blair and sent our troops to the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan he short changed the military by not providing enough funds. The ITN video shows this warmongering incompetent reluctantly giving an inadequate apology after being exposed by a Commons library research note prepared last October.

Whatever your nationality or your religion if you believe in humanity and justice you will oppose brutality and demand your government chooses the road to peace. I particularly call to Jewish and Israeli people – demand peace, stop this brutality, live in peace with your neighbours. Calm the might of the Israeli government and armed forces, isolate the extremists on both sides of the conflict. Here’s a story first read on the Reprieve web site that is not only disturbing in itself but even more disturbing that it exposes the Obama Administration as being, in it’s approach to openness and transparency at least, just as corrupt as the Bush regime. Summary executions of bound and naked men by laughing Sri Lankan government troops was videoed on a mobile phone and handed to Channel 4 News by a group called Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka. It is claimed that the video was shot in January 2009 but my Tamil contacts assert that the murders were committed in June 2009 about a month after the civil war had been declared officially over. Atrocities are reported on both sides but the Sri Lankan government forces have shown no mercy to either combatants or civilians. It is estimated that 10,000 Tamils died in the fighting, many of them in circumstances that can only be described as war crimes. The Duck Shoot blog supports the Amnesty International campaign for accountability for the war crimes we witnessed in Gaza. Amnesty members and supporters took action by writing and emailing their own governments to support the UN resolution. Here’s an email I received from Kristyan Benedict the campaign manager. Veterans are standing with musicians, including Trent Reznor, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Jackson Browne, Rise Against, Rosanne Cash, Billy Bragg and the Roots and joined the National Campaign to Close Guantanamo. The United Nations has condemned both sides in the recent conflict in Gaza. Israel was censured for using disproportionate force in the three-week conflict. But the UN notes that war crimes were committed by Palestinians as well. Israel who refused to cooperate with the UN claims the report is one-sided. |
