The US Supreme Court is to wait till after the summer recess before considering the habeas corpus petition of Troy Davis.
There is an urgent need to highlight Troy’s case and further bring to the attention of the court and to the Georgia authorities that Troy’s case is riddled with inconsistency and injustice.
September 29 is the when the Supreme Court reconvenes. We must take action now.
Here is how Amnesty International very concisely describes the ultimate penalty: “The death penalty is the ultimate, irreversible denial of human rights. By working towards the abolition of the death penalty worldwide, Amnesty International USA’s Death Penalty Abolition Campaign looks to end the cycle of violence created by a system riddled with economic and racial bias and tainted by human error.”
To allow this system of punishment to continue makes murderers of us all.
Should We Abolish The Death Penalty?
I invite you to comment on this story and the whole issue of the use of the death penalty. What’s your opinion? Should it be abolished? Should it used for selected crimes? How should we deal with murders, torturers and war criminals? Should sex crimes, rape and child molestation attract the ultimate penalty?
The Duck Shoot doesn’t think so and will relentlessly campaign against all kinds of capital punishment. Join the debate – leave a comment – click on the comments tab and type in your thoughts.
